Barrel-Style 2-Player Cocktail Arcade Table with 60 or 412 Games

Most arcade machines look like arcade machines. This one looks like a barrel. It’s a compact, sit-down cocktail table with a 15-inch LCD under tempered glass, two player stations facing each other, and a round barrel body that gets a reaction from everyone who walks into the room. Each side has a Sanwa joystick and six buttons. You pick a 60-game or 412-game package, it ships on free play, and the coin slot works if you want to charge for play.

It’s also light. At about 75 pounds and 30.5 inches tall, it’s the arcade machine you can move by yourself and carry up a flight of stairs with one helper.

Who the barrel table is for

This is the arcade table for spaces where a full-size cabinet doesn’t make sense: an apartment, a second-floor bonus room, a kid’s bedroom, a home bar with limited floor space, or a business that wants a conversation piece more than a serious gaming station. The footprint is 30.5 by 22.5 inches. That’s smaller than a lot of end tables.

If you’re outfitting a dedicated game room and want the best playing experience, look at our full-size cocktail table instead. It has a 19-inch screen and two trackballs, and it costs $400 more. The barrel trades screen size and the trackball for personality and portability.

The one feature it doesn’t have

There’s no trackball on this table. For most classic games that doesn’t matter, since mazes, shooters, climbing games and fighting games were all built for a joystick. But a handful of popular arcade games were designed around a trackball and never play quite right on a stick. If those are the games you’re buying it for, choose the full-size cocktail table with dual trackballs. If your list is joystick games, the barrel does the job and saves you money.

Screen size and seating

The 15-inch screen is sized for two people sitting right at it. Players face each other across the glass. Classic games originally made for cocktail cabinets typically flip the picture for each player’s turn, but behavior varies from game to game in any multi-game package, so on some titles the second player will see the screen upside down.

The table stands 30.5 inches tall, a little taller than a standard dining table. Regular dining chairs work, and some people prefer a slightly taller chair. Bar stools are too high. Leave enough space on both ends for a chair to pull back.

60 or 412 games

The 60-game package covers the big-name classics. The 412-game package costs $100 more and adds a much deeper library of maze, shooter, sports and puzzle games. Both lists are available to check before you buy:

For a table that’ll be used by guests and kids, the 412 package keeps it interesting longer. If it’s mainly a decor piece that gets played occasionally, the 60-game package is plenty.

Barrel table or bartop arcade?

Both have 15-inch screens and Sanwa joysticks, so the difference comes down to how you want it to live in your space. The barrel stands on its own and has its own base, so it doesn’t take over a counter or a bar. It also has a working coin slot. The bartop is $600 cheaper and sits on furniture you already own, but it’s free play only and needs a table with room at both ends. If you have the floor space, the barrel feels more like a real arcade piece. If you don’t, the bartop is the smarter buy.

Coin slot, free play and sound

Out of the box, every game runs on free play. Switch on coin mode and the slot takes coins, which is handy for a bar, a barbershop or a game night where you want to raise a little money. The built-in amplified sound has a silent setting so it can sit in a living room without taking over.

Care and placement

The top is tempered glass over the LCD. Treat it as a screen, not a coaster: set drinks on a side table, and wipe it with a soft cloth rather than anything abrasive. Keep the table out of direct sunlight, which washes out any LCD and heats the cabinet. Because it’s light, it’s easy to slide around for cleaning or to tuck into a corner when you need floor space.
