Cuetec AVID Surge Break Cue, Gray Stain, Florian Kohler Edition
The AVID Surge Break Cue in gray stain is Cuetec’s Florian Kohler Edition, finished with silver and blue Power Twist rings, a steel collar and steel butt cap. It’s a full-length break cue: 29-inch butt, 29-inch shaft, no wrap. Cuetec built the Surge line by borrowing from three of its cues: the AVID playing cues, the Cynergy Breach break cue and the Cynergy Propel jump cue. The goal was a high-performance break cue at a lower price.
MSRP is $429. Our price is $389.
What makes it a break cue
- Extra-hard tip. A Power+ phenolic tip on a glass pad transfers energy into the cue ball instead of compressing like a leather tip.
- Phenolic ferrule. The 7 mm Power+ phenolic ferrule is built to take repeated hard impact.
- Air Light front end. Cuetec bores out more than 10 inches of the shaft to cut front-end mass and reduce deflection, which helps keep a hard break on line.
- Glass composite over maple. The shaft uses multi-ply glass composite bonded to A-grade kiln-dried hard maple.
Use it for breaking, not for your regular shots
That extra-hard phenolic tip is the right tool for the break and the wrong one for finesse shots. It doesn’t grip the cue ball the way a leather tip does, so draw and english shots are less predictable. Most players break with this, then switch back to their playing cue. If you also want to jump, look at the matching Surge jump cue, which has a short 15-inch handle built for it.
Weight
Standard weight is 19 ounces, and Cuetec’s Acueweight Generation II system adjusts it in quarter-ounce steps with Cuetec’s weight kit. The shaft alone is 4.3 ounces. The bumper also accepts Cuetec’s Duo Smart Extension.
Gray or Black/Gold?
Same construction. The gray stain is the Florian Kohler Edition with silver and blue rings. The Black/Gold Surge break cue has silver and gold rings and a lower MSRP. See both on our AVID Surge break cues page.
