Cuetec Cynergy Truewood Walnut I Wrapless Pool Cue
The Truewood Walnut I is a warm brown cue with a clean, simple look. Cuetec’s Truewood Walnut veneer runs up the forearm, and below the silver Shield rings everything is gloss black, handle and butt sleeve both, with no wrap. That pared-down layout is what Cuetec calls a Merry Widow. It’s paired with a Cynergy carbon fiber shaft.
We sell it for $899 (Cuetec MSRP $999). The 11.8 mm shaft version is in stock. The 12.5 mm is currently out of stock, so give us a call if you’d rather wait for that one.
Why walnut
Of the three Truewood veneers we carry, Walnut sits in the middle: not as dark as Ebony, not as loud as the speckled Leopard. If you want a cue that looks like a traditional wood cue without much flash, it’s a good fit. Because the veneer only covers the forearm on the I, the brown-to-black contrast at the rings is the main design feature.
Construction
Under the Walnut veneer is an A+ grade, kiln-dried Canadian maple core. Cuetec coats the whole butt in Clear-Tec epoxy resin, which it credits with added stiffness and lower vibration. The black handle sits under that same epoxy, so there’s no wrap to fray or replace.
About the 11.8 mm Cynergy shaft
Since the 11.8 is the size in stock, here’s what it’s like. Cuetec gives it a 9.6-inch straight taper, meaning the shaft stays slim for that length before it widens toward the joint. The smaller tip lets you place contact more precisely and put more spin on the ball. Cuetec recommends it for intermediate to advanced players.
Like every Cynergy shaft, it’s carbon fiber over a polyurethane foam core. The foam stops five inches from the tip to lighten the front end and cut deflection. You get a 0.25-inch white ferrule and a soft Tiger Sniper laminated tip.
New to small shafts? An 11.8 will feel thin in your bridge if you’ve been playing a 13 mm maple shaft. Give it a few sessions before you decide.
Care and tips
Cuetec’s care rules for Cynergy shafts are simple. Clean with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol of 75% or higher. Don’t sand, polish or treat the shaft, and don’t use hand chalk or powder on it. Cuetec says sanding or chemicals void the shaft warranty. When the tip wears out, have it replaced by a cuesmith who won’t sand the shaft, and keep at least 1 mm of ferrule.
Weight, joint and extension
The butt weighs in at 19 oz standard. The Acueweight Generation II system takes Cuetec’s weights in 0.25 oz steps (the kit is sold separately). The joint is a 3/8×14 Cuetec joint at 21.30 mm, so if you later want a 12.5 mm shaft as a second option, order the Cuetec-joint version to fit flush. The bumper is ready for Cuetec’s Duo extension.
In the box and warranty
You get the butt, the Cynergy shaft, CT joint protectors and shaft cleansing wipes. No case. Cuetec’s limited lifetime warranty covers material and workmanship defects, including warping, once you register the cue on Cuetec’s website within 60 days. Tips, ferrules, bumpers and finish aren’t covered. Billiards Direct is an authorized Cuetec dealer, so a cue bought here qualifies.
Other options
Want walnut on the butt sleeve too? See the Walnut II wrapless ($939). The Ebony I is the same price in a darker veneer and has both shaft sizes in stock.
