Predator Limited Edition Double Butterfly Pool Cue – No Wrap
The Predator Double Butterfly takes one of the oldest looks in cue making and turns the color up. Its forearm is black ebony with four long butterfly points spliced in, and each point is outlined in teal blue, yellow and orange veneers. Unlike a standard sharp point, these are rounded at the bottom and taper to a sharp tip at the top. An Ivorine diamond sits inside every point. Four shorter butterfly points repeat the pattern on the butt sleeve, and a gold Predator cat is inlaid in the center of the cue. There’s no wrap, so the design runs the full length of the butt.
Price: $3,199 With REVO
We list the Double Butterfly at $3,199. That’s the $2,700 butt plus a REVO® carbon fiber shaft. Choose your REVO diameter (12.4, 11.8 or 12.9 mm) in the shaft menu at no extra cost, then set your tip and weight.
The Butterfly Points
Predator describes these as intersecting butterfly spliced points. Each one swells into a rounded base and narrows to a sharp tip, and the layered veneers follow that curve, so the color bands look like wings. The long points on the forearm and the short points on the sleeve mirror each other across the cue. Spliced work like this takes more cutting and fitting than a printed or inlaid design, and Predator built the Double Butterfly as a limited run.
Ebony and Ivorine
Ebony is dense and nearly black, which is what makes the teal, yellow and orange veneers stand out so sharply. The Ivorine diamonds, collar and butt cap give it the warm off-white trim of a traditional cue. Ivorine is a synthetic made to look like ivory. The butt cap carries the Predator logo.
Joint, Weight and Tip
The Double Butterfly uses Predator’s Uni-Loc® Quick Release™ joint with a stainless steel pin, so it accepts any current Uni-Loc shaft. Standard weight is 19 oz, and the Uni-Loc® weight cartridge system lets you adjust it. Predator’s standard tip on this cue is the Victory Soft, and the standard shaft length is 29″.
Who It’s For
This is a collector-grade playing cue. If you want a traditional spliced design with real color, and you plan to play it rather than display it, the Double Butterfly delivers both. Predator’s own words for it are that it’s meant to be played and preserved. If you’d rather have a quieter design at a lower price, the Predator Artisan and True Splice 16 are the next step down.
