Predator Air Rush Teal Jump Cue, No Wrap
Predator named teal its Color of the Year, and the Air Rush Teal is the jump cue version. Predator describes the finish as a limited-edition matte teal, and on this model it runs bare from the forearm to the butt with no wrap. The playing parts are standard Air Rush: an Air REVO carbon composite shaft, a 14 mm phenolic tip with a carbon fiber shield, no ferrule and a Uni-Loc Steel-Lite Quick Release joint.
We have it in stock at $599. Predator’s own store showed it sold out when we listed it.
Looking after a matte finish on a bare handle
Matte paint is the reason this cue looks the way it does, and it’s also the one thing that needs a little attention. A gloss finish lets chalk and hand oil sit on top where a quick wipe takes it off. Matte has a slightly textured surface, so marks settle in and show up as darker, shinier patches, mostly on the handle where your back hand sits.
The fix is boring but it works. Wipe the forearm and handle with a dry microfiber cloth after you play, before the residue builds up. Keep chalk off your back hand. Skip furniture polish, wax and anything with silicone, because those leave a shine that won’t match the rest of the cue. If you want a matte cue without worrying about the handle, the Teal Air Rush with sport wrap covers that part with a grip for $60 more.
How the Air Rush comes apart
It’s three pieces: a 29-inch shaft, an 11.25-inch forearm and an 11.25-inch handle. With all three joined you’ve got 51.5 inches and 12.1 oz, which suits longer jumps and shots where you need to reach. Drop the handle and you’re at 40.25 inches and 8.1 oz for short, steep jumps. Most league rules put the floor for a jump cue at 40 inches, so even the short build is legal.
Why a phenolic tip and no ferrule
A jump shot needs a hard tip and a light front end. Phenolic is far harder than leather, so the cue ball comes off fast with little loss, and skipping the ferrule takes weight out of the very end of the shaft. The trade-off is that this tip won’t hold spin like a playing tip. Use it for jumps, not for your regular shots.
