BBO Elite Alpha LED Poker Table: Oval, Solid Oak, Dining-Ready

The Elite Alpha is the BBO table people buy when it has to live in the dining room. It’s a 94-inch oval poker table on a solid oak pedestal with claw legs, with an integrated LED strip under the rail and an optional matching top that turns it into a full dining table. It seats up to ten players. The rail is a 7-inch ultra-wide black armrest with built-in 4-inch stainless steel cup holders, and inside it is a wooden racetrack just under 3 inches wide.

It’s heavy, it’s handsome, and it isn’t the kind of table you fold up after the game. That’s the point of it.

Oval vs. kidney: why the shape matters

BBO makes two flagship LED tables, and the biggest difference is shape. The Lumen HD is kidney-shaped with a dedicated dealer seat in the curve. The Elite Alpha is an oval with no dealer cutout, so all ten seats are equal and the deal rotates around the table the way most home games run.

The oval also reads as furniture. With the top on, it looks like a dining table rather than a casino table with a lid, which is why it’s so often bought to serve as the dining room table. If your game uses a dedicated dealer every hand, the Lumen HD is the better fit. If the deal goes around, or the table will double as your dinner table, choose the Elite Alpha.

The racetrack and the removable surface

Between the armrest and the felt is a hardwood racetrack about 2 7/8 inches wide. It’s a ledge for chips, cards and the occasional elbow, and it keeps stacks off the playing surface. The armrest holds the cup holders, so drinks stay out of the action too.

The playing surface itself is removable, a feature BBO describes as exclusive to its tables. If the felt ever gets stained or worn, or you decide you want a different color or a custom graphic down the road, the surface can be swapped instead of reupholstering the whole table. On our site you can pick red, green, blue or black felt, in standard velveteen or an upgraded waterproof cloth.

The LED lighting

Integrated LEDs run around the table and come with a remote for color and brightness. BBO also offers a Wi-Fi upgrade that lets you control the lights from your phone. One owner review on BBO’s own site says the lights can be very bright and that they run them on the dim setting, which is good advice. The lighting looks best as a soft accent, not a light show. Like any lit table, it needs a power cord to reach a wall outlet, so plan the spot before it arrives.

Dining mode: height, chairs and weight

Here’s the part to think through before you order the top.

Height. BBO lists the table at 30 inches tall as a poker table and 32 inches with the dining top on. A typical dining table is closer to 30 inches, so with the top on, your chairs will sit a little lower relative to the table than you’re used to. Most people adjust without noticing, but if you’re buying dining chairs separately, choose ones with a slightly higher seat.

Chairs. The chair packages we offer for the Elite Alpha come as sets of six, in black dining chairs or beige lounge chairs, while the table seats up to ten. That’s ideal for a family of six at dinner. For a full poker night, you’ll need four more chairs.

Weight. BBO lists the table at 287 pounds, plus about 100 pounds for the dining top. That’s close to 400 pounds sitting on a pedestal base. On a ground floor or a concrete slab, no problem. If it’s going upstairs, plan the delivery path carefully, and if you have soft flooring, put furniture pads under the feet.

How much room does it need?

A good rule of thumb is to leave about 3 feet of open space around a poker table for chairs and walking room. At 94 by 46 inches, the Elite Alpha needs a room of at least roughly 13’10” by 9’10”. A typical formal dining room can fit it, which is part of its appeal.

Is it worth it over a cheaper table?

If you only play a few times a year, a folding-leg table like the BBO Aces Pro will do the job for far less and store in a closet. The Elite Alpha makes sense when the table stays out full time. You’re paying for a solid oak base, the ultra-wide armrest, LED lighting and the option to use it every day as a dining table. If it replaces your dining table, the math looks a lot better.
