Description

Rasson Hero Pool Table in Sarum Strand

The Hero is the most affordable way to get a 7 or 8 foot Rasson slate table into your house. It’s a straightforward design: a clean rectangular cabinet on four squared block legs, wrapped in Sarum Strand, a grey wood-grain laminate with a brushed, textured look. It isn’t trying to be sculpture. It’s a well-built, good-playing table that fits in with most furniture.

You can order it in 7, 8 or 9 foot, with drop pockets or a ball return. It also comes in Strong Black.

What’s under the laminate

The slate is Rasson 25mm (1 inch) in three pieces, the standard thickness for a good home table. It sits on a steel and wood support beam, the same beam approach Rasson uses on the Acurra. The slate is leveled with bolts at the frame, and each leg has a Rasson-designed leveler at the floor.

The rails are solid wood capped in high-pressure laminate (HPL). The cushions are Rasson Pro rubber in the K55 profile, the standard pool nose shape. Sights are aluminum and the corners are aluminum alloy with a baked finish. The apron and legs are MDF covered in the same HPL, which keeps the cost down without changing how the table plays.

Hero or Acurra?

Both tables share 1-inch slate, a steel and wood beam, K55 cushions and a 7, 8 and 9 foot range. So what does the Acurra’s higher price get you? Solid wood legs instead of MDF, round stainless steel sights instead of aluminum, Rasson’s MAX cushion rubber, and the angled A-frame legs. If you like the Hero’s simple block-leg look, you aren’t giving up anything on the playing surface.

One care note that matters

The HPL skin is tough. It resists scratches, heat and spills, and it will outlast a painted finish. The MDF underneath is the part to protect. MDF swells if water sits on a raw edge. So wipe up spills around the legs promptly, don’t steam-clean or wet-mop right up against the feet, and in a basement, keep the humidity in check. Do that and the Hero will look the same in ten years as it does on delivery day.

Sarum Strand in the room

Sarum Strand is a mid-grey with a pronounced grain, a bit like driftwood. It pairs well with white oak, grey tile, concrete and linen upholstery, and it doesn’t fight with warmer woods either. Grey cloth gives a quiet, tonal look. Blue or green cloth makes the table pop.

Picking a size

The Hero comes in all three common sizes. Using a standard 58-inch cue, plan on about 12’11” x 16’2″ for the 7 foot (39″ x 78″ playfield), 13’4″ x 17’0″ for the 8 foot (44″ x 88″), and 13’10” x 18’0″ for the 9 foot (50″ x 100″). A 52-inch cue for tight spots can save close to a foot on each side. The 7 foot option is a big reason people choose the Hero, since Rasson’s tournament tables start at 8 foot.

Pockets

Drop pockets keep each ball where it went in. The ball return rolls them all to one spot at the foot of the table, so racking is fast. Most home buyers choose the ball return.

7 foot, 8 foot and 9 foot, each with drop pockets or a ball return.

What’s the difference between the Hero and the Acurra?
The playing surface is the same class: 1-inch slate, a steel and wood beam and K55 cushions. The Acurra adds solid wood angled legs, stainless steel sights and MAX rubber. The Hero has block legs and costs less.

What is Sarum Strand?
It’s Rasson’s grey wood-grain laminate finish, with a textured, driftwood-like look.
