Rasson Hero Pool Table — Strong Black — 7, 8 & 9 Foot

Rasson Hero Pool Table in Strong Black

The Hero in Strong Black is a simple, handsome table: a black wood-grain cabinet on four solid block legs, with aluminum corners and sights that give it a bit of shine. It’s the entry point to Rasson’s 7 and 8 foot slate tables, and it’s aimed at people who want a real slate table at home without paying tournament prices.

Choose 7, 8 or 9 foot, and drop pockets or a ball return. The same table also comes in the grey Sarum Strand finish.

Where the money goes

A table at this price has to cut costs somewhere. Rasson kept those cuts away from the playing surface. You still get three-piece Rasson slate at 25mm (1 inch), a steel and wood support beam, and K55-profile Rasson Pro cushions. The savings come from the cabinet. The apron and legs are MDF under high-pressure laminate rather than solid wood, and the sights are aluminum rather than stainless steel.

None of that changes how a ball rolls. It mostly affects how the table holds up to abuse and water, which is covered below.

Rails, cushions and leveling

The rails are solid wood with an HPL cap. The corner castings are aluminum alloy with a baked finish. The slate is leveled with bolts at the frame, and each leg has a Rasson-designed leveler for the floor. That’s enough adjustment for an installer to get the table dead flat and to touch it up after it settles in its first months.

Living with a black laminate table

Black is the practical choice if you have kids or pets. The laminate hides small scuffs, and it doesn’t show fingerprints the way painted black does. Dust will show, though. A quick pass with a microfiber cloth every week or so keeps it looking sharp.

The one thing to watch is water around the legs. The HPL skin is waterproof, but the MDF core will swell if water gets into a seam or edge and sits there. Mop around the table instead of under it, wipe spilled drinks off the floor quickly, and run a dehumidifier in a damp basement.

Is the Hero enough table?

For most families, yes. It plays on real slate with standard K55 cushions, and it will hold its level for years. If you want solid wood legs, stainless sights and angled A-frame styling, the Rasson Acurra is the next step up. If you want tournament-spec 30mm slate and an aluminum frame, you’re looking at the Wolf. We’re happy to walk you through the differences by phone or email.

Sizes and room planning

The Hero comes in 7, 8 and 9 foot, and the 7 foot is a big part of its appeal. Rasson’s tournament tables don’t come that small. With a standard 58-inch cue on all sides, you’ll want about 12’11” x 16’2″ for a 7 foot, 13’4″ x 17’0″ for an 8 foot, and 13’10” x 18’0″ for a 9 foot. Their playfields are 39″ x 78″, 44″ x 88″ and 50″ x 100″. A short 52-inch cue helps near walls and saves nearly a foot each way.

Ball return or drop pockets

With the ball return, every pocketed ball collects at the foot of the table, so you rack from one spot. With drop pockets, each ball stays in its own pocket. The ball return is the more popular choice for home game rooms.

Billiards Direct delivery and install

Billiards Direct has sold and installed pool tables in San Diego since 2003. We ship the Hero across the lower 48 states, and our own crew delivers and installs in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles. Slates are leveled with a machinist’s level, and we return if the table shifts once it settles.
